Kennington WI members contributed to 510 Christmas boxes being delivered to children living in domestic violence refuges, those involved with children’s charities and a fostering service across Kent. Hundreds of people across Ashford contributed items and/or boxes, including businesses and schools in the area. Huge congratulations to all Kennington WI members, and to Danielle Perry who made it all possible – see the monumental effort in this great video.
Kennington Women’s Institute is one of the oldest WIs in not just Kent, but in Britain. WIs were first established in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing good during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK.
Kennington WI has continued these strong beliefs for more than 100 years, celebrating its anniversary in 2018. Members meet regularly on the second Monday of each month, and has established 15 special interest groups to provide women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, take part in a wide variety of activities and campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
It’s Panto Time! Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is! Kennington WI’s rip-roaring, hilarious from start to finish panto is back, this time with the classic favourite Puss in Boots. More details and ticket information to come soon, but mark the dates in your diary and don’t miss the side-splitting spectacular!
The East Kent Federation of Women’s Institutes is delighted to announced Helen Sharman CMG OBE as guest speaker at its Annual Council Meeting at the Leas Cliff Hall in March 2020. Helen was the first British person in Space and the first British astronaut, and is a pioneer and role model for young people (of all ages!).
